Mayor Dedrick D. Johnson is currently serving his third term as Mayor of the great City of Texas City and is the longest serving member on the current Texas City Commission. This is his 22nd year in municipal government, a testament to the trust and confidence our community has in his leadership.

Dedrick Johnson is a 1989 graduate of Texas City High School.  He holds degrees from the College of the Mainland in Texas City and the University of Texas at Austin.  He is a former educator with Texas City ISD where he taught mathematics for 15 years, coached basketball and sponsored student organizations.

In 2011, Johnson changed careers and became a process technician with Marathon Petroleum, formerly BP… where he is a proud member of USW Local 13-1.

Mayor Johnson is the Vice President of the Galveston County Mayors and Councilmembers Association and serves on the Texas City Economic Development Corporation. He is the acting director of Dedrick Johnson Productions – a leadership consultation group for special events and projects, and is the founder of the nonprofit organization, B.L.U.E. INC. (Business, Leadership & Urban Excellence). In 2023 he was named “Public Official of the Year” by the University of Houston College of Public Administration.  He was also a finalist for Galveston County Citizen of the Year!  He enjoys implementing new and creative initiatives in the Texas City Community. Some of Johnson’s initiatives are the creation of the Summer Hire Internship Program aka S.H.I.P, the Commission’s Community Grant Fund, the Mayor’s Taskforce on Homelessness, the Fatherhood Initiative, and several more.

Johnson is a member of Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church in Hitchcock, Texas, were he serves as Associate Minister, and Director of Youth Church.  He accredits much of his political success to the lessons he learned and the connections he made during his 16 years serving as a City Commissioner with Texas City’s two previous mayors.

Johnson is the proud father of 4 beautiful children and says his goal is to make Texas City a place that his children…and all the residents can be proud to call HOME.
